"Our Broken Care System is Held Up By Unpaid Carers Doing Vital Work Out of Love and Pride"

Quote from the report "Long Term Funding for Adult Care" page 61

The report on the long term funding of adult social care, by the Select Committee for the Department of Levelling Up, Communities and Housing, confirms the unfair burden placed on unpaid carers due to inadequate support and services. Ruth, tide Chair, speaks about her thoughts on the report.

"This shocking report confirms the overall physical, emotional and financial costs for unpaid family and friends who care for others. It suggests that the £25m over three years allocated to initiatives to support carers will do little to assure them that their contributions are recognised and valued; only one in four carers receive an assessment of their needs; and carers described the Carers Allowance as an 'insulting and inadequate amount' which few people qualify for because the earnings threshold is so low. This is why we need tide, to help unpaid carers speak up, challenge the inadequacies of the system and press for change to improve their lives and those of the people they look after."
