The campaign
tide united in One Dementia Voice to call on the Government to avert hidden catastrophe – allowing family carers to visit Care Homes.
tide worked in partnership with Alzheimer's Society, Alzheimer Research, Dementia UK, Innovations in Dementia, John's Campaign and YoungDementia asked the government for Key Worker Status to be granted to a family member to allow them to visit relative in Care Homes. New guidance has been issued on the 1st December allowing for meaningful care home visits in England. Read the statement here

The pilot scheme on giving Key Worker status to one family member is to be rolled out during November and at the end of the debate, Debbie Abrahams MP asked Helen Whately (Minister for Care) to make a statement to the House by the end of the month with an update on the care home visits pilot.

The result Some guidance was issued by the government: visiting in care homes However, the Key Worker Status request has been ignored and we are still hearing from our carers that not enough is being done. We will continue with this campaign.
With one united voice, we're calling on the government to grant family and friend carers the same Key Worker Status as care home members of staff. Only as a last resort have we taken this step. We believe that the government guidelines have spread chaos and caused avoidable suffering and that a fundamental violation of human rights is happening on a mass scale. Time is precious; every day counts to those people in care homes and to their family, for whom enforced separation has brought damage, bewilderment, and anguish.”
