Research to support family and friends caring for someone with dementia

  • Are you caring for or supporting someone with dementia?
  • Are you making decisions about their care on their behalf?
  • Do you feel you need more support making decisions?
Family and friends caring for someone with dementia are often left to make decisions on behalf of the person with dementia. Decisions may include things such as when to move into a nursing home, hospital admission, or how to provide the best care. Carers can find making decisions difficult. We have developed a decision aid to support family and friends making such decisions. You will receive a copy of a paper decision aid. It will provide you with information about dementia, different decisions you may need to make and the options available to you. We will ask you to use the decision aid for 6 months. A researcher will contact you on 3 occasions and do a questionnaire with you to see if the decision aid is helping you and understand what you think about the decision aid. You will receive a £10 gift card each time you complete the questionnaire. The project is being led by a team of expert dementia researchers from University College London, in collaboration with Life Story Network/ Together in dementia everyday (TiDE).
