Hello everyone, my name is Anne and I have began a raising awareness and fundraising challenge to walk a full 26 mile marathon every week from 4th April for 6 months.
I'm delighted to be doing this, both to give back to ‘tide’ for all their support to me, but also to help keep me healthy of body and mind. I have always enjoyed walking, me and mum did this as long as I can remember, especially coastal or park walks. I think it's great mindfulness time to be at one with nature and clear your head of any worries that you may have.
I became involved with Tide as I'm a former home carer for my much loved mum, we had a long a difficult dementia journey, but I would do it all again, it was such a privilege to be able to return that love and be there for her not only as a daughter and carer, but also her best friend.
I've completed my first week and I'm delighted to say I have walked over 34 miles in the last 7 days, thank goodness for pedometers that register my steps, this let's me post my progress to everyone on my fundraising page. https://tide.enthuse.com/pf/anne56
Please visit and watch my progress, donate or even consider doing a challenge yourself for ‘tide’. Im almost 50% into my pledge to raise £500, I'm very pleased, but I'm trying to keep the momentum moving to reach my target.
It's very easy to set up a challenge and the fundraising team will talk you through any technical difficulties that you encounter with the technology. If every member of ‘tide’ did even the smallest of challenges it would make such a difference having that level of donations, but also raising awareness of who we are and what support we can offer to current and former carers. Remember, you can do the smallest of fundraising challenges but still make a big difference, a simple version of my challenge is walk maybe 40 times a week around your own garden, or walk a mile a day challenge, that is only 2000 steps, you probably do that whilst doing your housework without thinking about it? Cycling is another option or anything that you can dream up…. Fundraising would love to hear all your ideas and will support you to carry this out.
I'm a member of many groups, committees and delivering presentations etc, please get in touch to be involved if this is something that would also be of interest to you!
I'm extremely lucky to live a 5 minute walk from the Glasgow River Clyde, and a 20 minute walk from the famous Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum in the wonderful West End of Glasgow. I feel as though I'm promoting Scottish Tourism!
It certainly makes my walking trips far more interesting when I have beautiful local scenery.
I will post another update story at week 12, keep you all updated in my progress and how many pairs of trainers I have worn out. Be happy, enjoy Spring and carry on caring!
